Beck Rayner of Military Wife Life

Testing One, Two, Three…

Beck Rayner’s voice is easily recognised within the Australian defence community. Her podcast, titled Military Wife Life (MWL),  has explored content unique to Australian defence family life over the course of sixty four episodes with twenty eight thousand downloads…and counting!

Yet her podcast is only one aspect to her 4,000 strong MWL community.

Her website is chock-a-block with various ways for the community to connect.  This includes social media platforms, a blog, a ‘lots of love box’ giveaway, and a MWL hotline complete with an easy to use recording mechanism to allow spouses to have their say.

With her website and podcast, Beck has built a clearly identifiable, and thoroughly relatable brand for the Defence spouse community. Her latest venture – selling MWL tees – sold out within two hours.

Beck’s success is business boils down to her own experience as an eighteen-year Navy spouse. Nine years ago, she found herself at crossroads with Defence life, feeling disconnected from both the Defence and civilian community.

I FELT LOST…AND STARTED TO WONDER WHETHER I WOULD EVER FIND MY PLACE

Beck wanted to create a space where all spouses felt welcome, supported and connected.

And the Military Wife Life Community was born.

I FOUND MY PEOPLE. I FOUND THIS COMMUNITY OF SPOUSES WHO JUST ‘GOT IT’.  I FOUND CONNECTION AND UNDERSTANDING I DIDN’T EVEN KNOW I WAS MISSING.

Beck continues to grow her business, including new merchandise and an online shop, yet remains true to her mission to bring spouses together to tell their stories and provide access to support and information.

Listen to Beck in conversation with Prince’s Trust Australia’s Director for Defence members & Their Families Jasmine Cooper Sutton. Beck is an alumna of the Enterprise Online program.
